Let’s lay aside every weight and sin that burdens us and run the race that is set before us! John Piper gives us an encouraging short message based on the verse in Hebrews.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:1-2

In the video below, Pastor John Piper says that Christians should not be asking simply “is this a sin?”, but rather “does this help me run?” when making daily choices. We should strive to eradicate sin in our lives, but we should do more than that. We should do everything we can possibly do to run the race well, with our eyes fixed on Jesus. It’s going to be hard, and we can’t do it on our own, but when we strive to run the race that is set before us, there will be eternal rewards.
